The success of Clifford Gouldson Lawyer’s recent Artist-in-Residence program has benefitted Hope Horizons charity to the tune of $3,396.
CGLaw Director Amanda Tolson said, “The Artist in Residence program is a wonderful opportunity for the firm to participate as a member of our community in a different way to which you might expect from a law firm and it’s also a break from the often serious work that we do.”
The CGLaw Artist-in-Residence program offers a local artist the opportunity to collect a weekly stipend over eight weeks while also working and creating in the same environment as the firm’s legal teams.
At the conclusion of the residency CGLaw hosts a launch event for the artist to display their works for sale around the office and to put one main piece up for auction. The main piece is a collaboration of the artist’s work and work created by the CGLaw team under the guidance of the artist.
This year the CGLaw Artist-in-Residence was Anna Battle, artist and small business owner at Shiny Happy Art. Anna has been creating artworks for and with the Toowoomba community since 2011, and teaching online since 2015.
Amanda said, “There are benefits in this program to our local arts community, to our own team, to the artist and also to one nominated charity each year.”
“This year the charity of choice was Hope Horizons, Toowoomba’s first cancer wellness centre, offering high quality specialist allied health services to assist cancer patients, their families and their carers.”
“A proportion of proceeds from all art sold on the night, and 100% of the proceeds of the auctioned piece, for a total of $3,396 will benefit the valuable work Hope Horizons does in supporting cancer patients and their loved ones.”
Anna said, “I had a ball painting in the Clifford Gouldson office because the team were so friendly and it reminded me of my father’s office when I was little. I wanted to capture some of the details of this office, and encouraged the team to stretch their creative muscles and sketch with me. The exhibition was a lovely finale and sincerely appreciated the opportunity to see all of my work displayed and appreciated in such an interesting and creative space.”
