Clifford Gouldson is proud to announce that one of Australia’s most experienced intellectual property lawyers, Ken Philp, has joined the firm from 2 February 2021.
Ken comes to us with 39 years of experience in commercial litigation and intellectual property law with a client and referral network that extends from Australia to the USA, Canada, Europe, and Asia.
He has extensive experience providing advice on protecting and litigating copyright, trade marks, design and patent issues, brand protection and confidential information.
Over several years Ken has received peer and industry judged awards from the prestigious Doyle’s Guide to Australian Lawyers (including being ranked as Pre-eminent), Best Lawyers in Australia (IP category) and the 2020/21 World Trade Mark Review 1000 (one of only two Australians to receive the highest ranking of Luminary).
Ken is also a member of the Boutique Practice Committee of the USA-based Association of Intellectual Property Firms and since September 2019 has been one of its Directors.
He is widely regarded as one of the ‘go-to’ lawyers in intellectual property in Australia and has successfully litigated numerous high-profile cases with important decisions that have set major precedents in intellectual property law.
Ken’s clients vary widely from individuals, and small to medium enterprises to large international companies. His clients include well known Australian tech and manufacturing companies, a major Australian wine producer and exporter and one of the world’s largest construction industry companies based in Europe.
Ken will join the firm as a Senior Consultant in the Intellectual Property team lead by Director Ben Gouldson.
Ben said, “This is a truly remarkable opportunity for our firm to be joined by a lawyer of Ken’s stature and pre-eminence.”
“Ken will add a significant presence to our growing Brisbane operation and provide opportunities for us to develop our contacts and client relationships significantly.”
Ken said, “CGLaw is a firm that is continually innovating and looking for new endeavours and opportunities. The firm has an energy that is reminiscent of Bennett & Philp during the period I co-founded and worked hard on growing that firm.”
“Their recent spin-off, Bolter – The Law Firm for Start Ups, is just one of many examples of the firm showing its commitment to expanding what a law firm can be and taking an innovative approach to the practice of law.”
“Now with 39 years of practice under my belt, and an undiminished love of the work I do for my clients, I am very excited about what I can bring to CGLaw in the intellectual property space but also in helping the firm continue to grow and develop into the future.”
Ken will be primarily working in our Brisbane office but will also be available in Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast and is looking forward to meeting CGLaw’s local clients and contacts.
If you would like to meet with Ken in our Brisbane, Toowoomba or Sunshine Coast offices please feel free to make contact.
