Simon is an Associate at Clifford Gouldson Lawyers and a leading business lawyer with a passion for startups and new business. He’s the go-to for guidance on corporate, commercial and property advice, guidance around litigation and dispute resolution, and navigating through the national privacy law landscape, including data breach notification. He also assists businesses to register and profit from their intellectual property (IP) rights. Simon enjoys assisting his startup clients through what is often a significant and challenging time for them getting started.
Simon is a strong advocate for his clients and works hard to find a successful outcome that benefits them. Simon is a key point of contact for anyone looking for legal support and advice around new business ideas and ventures.
Simon is highly client and solution-focused and provides advice that is both forthright and commercial. He enjoys the everyday challenges of a career in law, and in particular, working with clients to produce results that exceed their expectations, and benefit them and their businesses.
Simon has the first-hand experience, working alongside Director Ben Gouldson, in helping one of our clients secure the first anti-anti suit injunction in Australia’s history. This case involved an overseas software development agreement where the developer failed to hit key milestones in the software development process. Private international law became a vital feature of the litigation dispute.
Simon particularly likes working with startups and emerging businesses, as the work is multifaceted and extends across many areas of law. He enjoys supporting his clients to reveal aspects of their idea or their business plan, which they may not have initially considered. Witnessing his client’s ideas flourish brings genuine happiness to Simon.
A local boy, born and raised in Pittsworth, Simon has an appreciation for giving back to the broader community. He was a Director for a not-for-profit organisation for around 7 years and has volunteered on many local committees. Simon is dedicated to the pursuit of diversity and inclusivity and is the current Independent Chair for the Toowoomba Headspace Consortium who offer health services to youth aged 12-25. He was also a Future Leaders Advisory Group Member for the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce in 2019. Few people come away from interactions with Simon without feeling better about themselves, and their situation. His calm reassuring and thoughtful temperament makes him a perfect trusted advisor for anyone in business.
In addition to his committee roles, Simon has previously adjudicated for the Queensland Debating Union in Toowoomba and spent some time working as a boarding house supervisor with the Toowoomba Anglican School.
Outside of work, Simon enjoys travelling, both locally and abroad. His favourite travel memory was visiting Vondelpark in the Netherlands the morning after their first snow. For some downtime, Simon enjoys staying fit and healthy, cooking and spending time with his close friends and family, particularly with his niece and nephews.
