Paula is a Special Counsel, specialising in commercial law and intellectual property, with over 30 years of experience. As a dual qualified lawyer in Australia and in the US, she has worked with start- ups, SMEs and large corporations, having worked in Silicon Valley, France and in Australia, where she moved in 2010.
Paula is also a dual qualified patent attorney, where she utilises her physics background working in electronics, software, mechanical and biotech technologies, being licensed to practice before the USPTO and IP Australia.
She worked as a patent examiner at IP Australia for a year before studying to become a licensed Australian lawyer in 2014. Since then, she has been in-house at several Australian companies, building up IP portfolios and doing commercial work to add value to their bottom lines.
Throughout her career, she has worked on a number of a patent litigation matters, which were successful for her clients, and has written and prosecuted at least 500 patent applications.
Paula had Motorola as a client for seven years while living in France. During this time, she wrote over 200 patent applications relating to mobile device technology, in addition to tending to various legal matters. More recently she built patent portfolios for local companies, WiseTech Global and for Silicon Controls.
In addition to her legal work at Clifford Gouldson, she is also currently part-time in-house senior legal counsel for Licella Holdings Ltd, doing all of their commercial agreements work and IP work.
Paula loves to spend time with her family, which includes two adult daughters living at home while they attend university. She also likes riding bikes, kayaking, snorkeling and going to the gym with her husband, or just hanging out with their 3 dogs and planning their next travel adventure. Paula is also a jeweler, plays the keyboard, and is learning to sail with her husband.
